GUATEMALA UPDATE

The PBR team has safely arrived in Guatemala City. We have been greeted by the MANNA Staff and settled into the house we will stay in for the next three days. Our ride from the airport was shocking, as we saw the severity of the situation here and the level of poverty these people are forced to live in. We are all very humbled and moved with compassion as we consider the weight of this trip. It's amazing how you can go from a focus of riding bulls for $35,000.00 in the Houston coliseum to being in a position where all you can think about is how to help these people get enough food to make it another day. Please pray with us that the love that God has trusted us with will overflow in a special way to these people.

We are headed to a church in Sumpongo to share the Gospel message.

Love or Compliance by Todd Pierce

Hi, everyone!

I am so glad we have a Father whose goal with us is intimate relationship, not compliance. I think it is important to stay mindful that if God's goal was to make you follow the rules, He could do it. Instead, He prefers the inside out approach. He knows that if we will learn to have confidence in His love for us and respond to that love with the same longings as He has, we won't be able to help but be holy. His goal is intimacy with us.

This has profound effect on every area of our existence when we realize that this can become the same pattern for our lives and relationships. Let me give you an example. My sons all have very strong and energetic personalities and I used to think that my job as their Father was to get them to obey the rules of our house. Do this! Don't do that! Although I owe it to them to teach them right from wrong and give them instruction, it can never be the goal of my interactions with them. If obedience is my goal, then I will get it - for a while anyway. If I take our Father's model, I will make sure that my focus is on building a heart connection through the instruction and guard it above all else. Consider: Jesus said "If you love me, you will obey me." He didn't say "Obey me to prove you love me." If we have a love relationship with Him, the consequence will be obedience. Do you think God is focused on getting you to obey Him or to love Him?

Relational Maturity by Todd Pierce

Relational maturity - I think we can all agree that our relationships are the most important experiences we have in this life. I believe that when Jesus wrapped the whole law up in this "Love God with your whole being and love others as you love yourself", He made relationships the most important thing. Although people are the greatest part of life, they are also the most dangerous and have the potential of inflicting the greatest pain. Because of this truth, I believe we should continue to grow in our ability to enjoy deep, rich relationships and teach others the same. It was Jesus who said that the world would recognize us as his followers by the love we have for one another.

This last week, I found myself counseling three different people who were struggling in three different kinds of relationships, but in each situation they had the same issue. I want to briefly give you a glimpse of some things our Father has shown me about preparing ourselves for deeper relationships.

Usually we choose to enter into relationships with people we like. Right? We like them because of their great qualities and willingness to like us back. There is no problem with building relationships with people you like, but if you have somehow forgot that every person in your life will eventually let you down and that they have many characteristics you won't like, then you are set up for resentment and conflict. Because it is so common for people to have shallow relationships, many of us have developed some really bad habits that effect the people we should be in deep relationship with. We have become so used to being the impressive person that people like that when someone close notices a flaw in us, we can become offended and defensive. We forget to practice giving the people around us some slack and giving ourselves the same. It is as though we are so protective of our appearance to others that we want others around us to do the same. So the time comes when someone close to you notices a flaw in you and maybe even chooses to point it out, our image is broken and it causes all sorts of emotional responses. Most of them are ugly. We have all experienced this. Right?

So what's the point? We must take a step back and realize that we must change our opinion of ourselves before we can succeed in our relationships with others. If you are able to receive the truth that our Father loves you with an everlasting love and He does it even though He sees all your flaws, then why do we think that our love for ourselves or one another should be any different? It is the Holy Spirit that will continue to make the changes in us and others. If you are able to see all your flaws in yourself and still be ok with you, then you can do the same for others. Now, when someone close points out something that offends them, you can honestly say, "Your right, and I am sorry. Please forgive me and know that our Father is still working on these areas." We won't be shocked and offended. We are free to be gracious because we are mature enough that we see our issues and others issues as part of the human experience and we are ok with it.

Love or Lust by Todd Pierce

Love and Lust!

I have never been one to title a message, but because this holds a bit of a shock factor, I thought I might as well. I have had a conviction about how I live my life that has revolved around these two words. It has been based on these definitions: Love is the desire to give at your expense and lust desires to gain at another's expense. I have found that I have a real tendency to lust people and consequently undermine what my real desire is. I'll put it this way - my heart's desire is to bring joy to our Father. I know that the thing that brings him the most joy is for me to genuinely love people. So I must continually consider how I deal with the people around me. Even though this seems simple, I will give you an example of how we can easily miss the mark.

As an evangelist, I have a burning desire to see people come into the Kingdom. Because of this gifting and passion I can get a vision for a way to reach the masses and consequently get so caught up in the vision that I begin to look around for people to lust so I can accomplish the end goal. I suppose it is the old mentality that an end can justify the means. In our Father's Kingdom, this is not so. As a son of God, I must continue to fight the temptation to use people so I can do what I think I have been commissioned to do. Confused? Here is my point:

I have struggled for many years on how to do ministry and specifically how to build a financial team so the work can get done. I have resisted talking about finances because I have been so concerned about becoming the guy who thinks the people in his life should financially support his vision. I tell you all this because I want to make sure that you know the struggles I have with this issue and that you know that I want to continue to love you as someone I have the privilege to serve without expecting a thing. I believe this is the way Jesus lived. He said he came to serve and not be served.

With all that said, though, I also believe I have a responsibility before the Father as a steward of enormous opportunity to make sure the people around me know the needs. Therefore, I am stepping out to do so by sharing with you that we have committed to do two Faith Nights this fall that will cost us approximately $50,000.00. What is YOUR Potential?

Have you ever wondered what YOUR potential really is? If you are a Christian, then Jesus is YOUR potential. Because of the redemption, YOU are now filled with the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the grave and because you have responded to that Spirit, you are a son or daughter - one who is capable of living the same character and love as Jesus. To many this may seem almost blasphemous, but hear me. Jesus showed the example of what the human potential is, when fully submitted to the Father. He came to reveal the Father to us and then invited us to follow Him in revealing the Father to those we encounter. I'm pretty sure that none of us will fully realize or reach this potential, but I want to spur you on for more. I want you to take another look at your life as a son or daughter and get a whole new hope and excitement in what our Father has for you. Too many of God's kids have settled for lives of weakness and compromise.

If you don't know how much the Father loves you just as you are, you may feel weighed down buy this truth and maybe even feel inadequate. But if you can understand the height, the depth, the width of God's love for you, then you will feel inspired. This is my prayer for you. "Father, to all who read this, I pray that you would reveal yourself to them in a way that will completely eliminate any doubt of your infinite love and acceptance of them. That they would be so captivated by your presence that they would be ruined for life apart from you. Holy Spirit, help them see their worth to you and then show them their potential. We need hope that is anchored in you. Give them the courage to accept the gospel of the Kingdom and faith to see how you can take one life offered to you and change the world around them. Show us what your dream is for us. I pray this with the love You gave me, Jesus. Amen."

Word of Encouragement by Todd Pierce

Hi family, we are closing in on the end of this time set aside to seek our Father in prayer and fasting and I want to encourage you. Please allow me to share where I am personally. I have told many of you that part of my focus during this time is to contend for the supernatural. Many people have a hard time distinguishing magic tricks from the supernatural of God. Remember that the sorcerers and magicians did many of the things that Moses could do. Again, Jesus said that there would come a day when people would come before him declaring the supernatural things they had been doing and Jesus would tell them to depart from him because the things they did were unauthorized. Remember when the disciples came to Jesus with excitement and went on and on about how the demons are even subject to them? He told them not to get caught up in rejoicing over that but consider the miracle that your names are written in the book of life. I believe they and we have already experienced the greatest miracle and that is that we can become sons of God by faith. That we become the righteousness of Jesus as He became sin for us.

I am continually asking our Father to take me as I have emptied myself and use me for His purposes. I want to be a son who so closely resembles my Father that my very presence produces life in other people. Woe unto me to not preach the Gospel of the Kingdom. Jesus was the Word of God made flesh and he dwelt among men. He instructed us to be/do the same. The Word of God should so form who we are that we emanate who God is, in the flesh. Jesus was the one and only begotten, but we are to be his imitators. We have the honor, responsibility and the joy of showing people who He is by letting our bodies be vessels of honor. It is supernatural for natural men to desire these things. It is supernatural that a sinner such as I would have the ability to manifest the presence of a Holy God. It is supernatural for the power of God to open the eyes of the blind so they can see the truth of God's love for them. It is supernatural for the prison doors to be opened and have people let out of bondage to lives of freedom. Although I would like to see the people I pray for immediately rise up healed and the discouragement I struggle with to be lifted, my hope is in the Lord. In all of it, we will confess His goodness.

Consider these words and begin to thank Him for the supernatural act that has already taken place in you and ignite the joy of your salvation. Return to your first love. In Ephesians 3:14-21 Paul offers this prayer and it is now my prayer for each of you. I love you. Todd

"For this reason, I kneel before the Father, from whom His whole family in Heaven and on earth derives its name. I pray that out of his glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever. Amen."

Hi family, We made it home from Vegas and are relatively rested. I have put a considerable amount of time praying and thinking about how to communicate to you all what has taken place while we were at the finals. Each of you are a critical part of what the Lord allows us to share in through this work, but it is nearly impossible to communicate to you what actually happens. I know the most common way is to give you statistics (i.e. how many people we were able to give the message to) or to just give individual testimonies of lives touched. Both of which are great, but tonight I really believe what I need to share with you is what may be the bigger picture. Most of my life in Christ I have walked by faith and have rarely had a real sense of why I do what I do. Tonight I want to give you a glimpse of what our Father has revealed to me and how he has encouraged my heart by showing me what he has accomplished in our traveling community called the PBR.

Last Thurs. night I stood as a witness to what I have recognized as a miracle. At the close of the second round of the world finals, the arena announcer congratulated the nights champion and then introduced a group of men that consisted of the reigning world champion, the current number one ranked man, two founding members Cody Custer and Adriano Moraes, and a mob of other radical disciples of Jesus who ride bulls for a living. One of these men was the same guy who had a vision when he and I were praying several years ago. The vision was of him riding a bull in a packed coliseum and after he rode, he saw blood flowing from the top of the building all the way down the side. After the blood passed, the walls were turned to gold. He said the sporting arena became a tabernacle for Gods glory to be shown. This night it happened. While I listened, three of the men individually took the microphone and told their 15,000 attending fans that they are appreciative of their support of their bull riding but the next hour was committed to sharing with them the message that had saved and changed each of their lives. Although all but a few thousand left, the next hour was nothing short of a supernatural expression of our Father to the people he had hand selected to receive a revelation of his plan for their lives. I stood in the middle of a round pen with a horse circling me and listened to Jeremy Riddle sing of a man being broken as he is delivered from the sin that had enslaved him. I spoke of an eternal Kingdom and a plan that goes beyond what our people had settled for. I gave an invitation for people to stop the running and turn and trust a Father who loves them and offers a great plan for their lives. It was a great event and untold lives were rescued, but this is only a glimpse. You have to understand that the sound, lighting, production, staging, video, the provider of the Horse, labor, security, were all volunteers who gave sacrificially of themselves. Not only were they volunteers, but they were 95% non-Christians. The reason I am making such an issue of this is because we have spent 10 years loving a godless, cynical staff that has seen it all and laughs at most ministries. Why would they give of themselves to help us pull off this amazing event? I believe the answer is that we have preached unapologetically the raw message of Jesus Christ and the hopelessness of all man kind apart from him and we have loved these people with the same wreck less abandon. Jesus was firm in his message but unmovable in his love of sinners. I am glad to consider myself a part of a ministry that insists on being real and really in love with people. Please consider the significance of what happens when we choose to love people enough to accept them where they are and let the Holy Spirit be the one to work in their hearts. Before I left Las Vegas, I walked through a TV production trailer to thank them for their help. Instead, they thanked me for letting them be a part of it. What would happen in each of your work places if you understood the significance of making your convictions known and then daring to love those who laugh at your message. Todd and Leslie
